UG Student Government
Nilgiri College of Arts and Science believes that the Student Leadership is integral to College life. A Nilgiri UG Student Government is a representative structure through which students in the college can become involved in the affairs of the college, working in partnership with college management and staff and parents for the benefit of the institution and its students. There are various Leadership positions made available to students with a particular interest in developing their organizational skill more systematic and formal, however all students are provided equal opportunities to demonstrate and to learn about leadership.
Students have a valuable contribution to make to the effectiveness of their institution and their involvement in the operation of the college itself a valuable part of the education process for the students. Nilgiri UG Student Government provides an opportunity for students to engage in a structured partnership with teachers, parents and college managers in the operation of their school. The establishment of a Nilgiri UG Student Government gives students an opportunity to acquire the sort of communication, planning and organizational skills which will be of benefit to them in their future lives.
It enables students to take responsibility for programs, and to demonstrate that they can manage and bring such programs to successful conclusion. Moreover, the contribution made by a Student Government to the development of college policy in a number of areas can have significant benefits for students and the Institution. College policies are far more likely to be successful where they are clearly understood and accepted by all partners within the college community.
ROLE OF
Nilgiri UG Student Government
A Student Council will set its own objectives, which will vary from college to college.. Some general objectives could include:
- To develop a sense of belonging, responsibility and partnership.
- To develop leadership skills and qualities that a person needs to be an effective leader like team work, confidence, respecting others and organization.
- To enhance communication between students, management, staff and parents.
- To promote an environment conducive to educational and personal development.
- To promote friendship and respect among pupils.
- To support the management and staff in the development of the college.
- To represent the views of the students on matters of general concern to them.
SELECTION PROCESS
Selection process of picking the right candidate with prerequisite qualifications and capabilities is a concern for the institution. Hence, Nilgiri College has taken various measures to ensure the right and efficient people to lead the Nilgiri UG Student Government.
STAGES IN SELECTION:
- Notifications are made through circulars
- Applications are collected
- Suggestions are collected from Department Heads
- Personal Interview & GD will be conducted
- Positions are allotted with candidate opinion and
- performance in selection process
