13 Faculty Members, Including the Managing Director, Earn PhDs on a Single Day Thalur: Nilgiri College of Arts & Science has achieved a rare and remarkable milestone in higher education. In an extraordinary academic accomplishment, 13 faculty members from the same institution were awarded their PhD degrees on a single day, creating a new chapter in the history of Bharathiar University. (Commerce) Dr. Archana M.S. (Computer Science) Dr. Michael Raj (Computer Science) They received their doctoral certificates from the Honorable Governor of Tamil Nadu, R.N. Ravi, at the convocation ceremony held at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. Leadership by Example A particularly inspiring highlight of the ceremony was that the College Secretary and Managing Director, Dr. Rashid Gazzali, received his second PhD on the same stage. While teachers often motivate students to pursue research, it is rare to see institutional leaders personally exemplify the research spirit at this level. This historic achievement was made possible through the visionary planning and strong support of the college management. Special research scholarships were introduced to assist faculty members who faced financial and academic challenges in pursuing doctoral studies. Along with financial support beyond regular salaries, the institution also provided advanced research facilities within the campus — enabling multiple faculty members to achieve this milestone simultaneously. Milestones Beyond Research Nilgiri College continues to demonstrate excellence across multiple academic dimensions: NAAC A++ Accreditation: One of the youngest colleges in India to secure NAAC A++ grade in its first cycle. Autonomous Status: Granted autonomy within a short span due to academic excellence. Recognized Research Departments: Official research programs have commenced in Commerce and Computer Science. Patents & Innovation: Faculty members have already secured multiple patents across various disciplines. Towards International Academic Standards Currently, 25 faculty members at Nilgiri College hold PhD degrees and are actively contributing to academia. The institution is steadily progressing toward its goal of becoming the self-financing college with the highest number of doctoral faculty members. Located in Thalur, a border village between Kerala and Tamil Nadu, Nilgiri College is emerging as a dynamic academic hub.
